| Buttons are very
important accessories that can either give prestige
to a waistcoat or make it look ridiculous if neglected. Their
buttons therefore must be chosen with utmost care. Even though fabric can be sold in single width (about 75 centimetres wide), tartan is generally sold in “double width”fabric (about 150 centimetres wide). is what I need to make a waistcoat :

Tartan or tweed waistcoats in the straight grain of the fabric : |

No collar (with or without pockets) : 1 metre of double width fabric (or 2.10 metres single width fabric ) with pockets and collar : 1.30 metre of double width fabric (or 2.80 metres single width fabric )1 metre of lining double width fabric (or 2 metres single width fabric ) 5 or 6 buttons about 15 mm diameter

| Tartan or tweed waistcoats bias cut (no collar for this type of waistcoat) : | ||

No pockets : 1.50 metre of double width
fabric (or 3.30 metres single width fabric) with 2 or 3 pockets : 1.70 metre of double width
fabric (or 3.50 metres single width fabric) |
