The idea is not new.

In fact, it is likely as old as tweed itself. Tweed kilts have been made since time immemorial.

If there is a cloth that says Highlands as much as does tartan, it is certainly tweed. All the more so since the mills that weave tartan are almost all in the Lowlands, some even in England. Which is not the case for tweed, Highland cloth par excellence.
